Though I do agree that 10 weeks into a product launch is too early for a price drop…even though I will never complain…I think Mr. Jobs could have avoided all this mess to begin with, and not put a black eye on what should have been a good thing. I think he should have said something to the extent of: “Since we are trying to get the iPhone to the masses we are going to do something never heard of before…between now and the end of the holiday season will are going to slash 200 bucks off the iPhone.” This way he could have sold it as a sale and not a price drop. I can’t imagine people can complain over a sale…I mean car dealers do it what seems like every month. But then it gets better…In January MacWorld comes along and another Steve Jobs speech. He could then say: “We’ve had such a good response to the price drop of the iPhone that we are going to leave it there and continue to price it at 399.” This way it would have been over 6 months since the release, and the sale combined with the permanent drop in January would have given the same result…This would have hopefully staved off the Open Letter (http://www.apple.com/hotnews/openiphoneletter/) and the 100 dollars he is giving to all the early adopters…See Apple should hire me, I would have saved them a lot of trouble
